As Tall As Lions – “Circles”

as-tall-as-lions-circles

As Tall As Lions – “Circles (Live In NY)”

As Tall As Lions – “Song For Luna”

the more i hear “Circles” (studio version here) the more it grows on me. ATAL third LP you can’t take it with you will be released on August 18. when they played Reggies in Chicago last year, we spoke about the new record as they were in the process of choosing a producer. they explained it was a tough choice because their songwriting process is an intricate one involving every member of the band. that, and the fact they were looking forward to exploring new rhythmic ideas, or better put… someone that gets “it” = right chemistry = right producer. i was the lucky LAST person allowed in the door at LA’s sold out Troubadour gig in February. they debuted some of the songs, and there were some great things taking shape. we’ll see. good things come to those who wait..

“Song For Luna” is a favorite off their last and self-titled sophomore ’06 LP..

Arctic Monkeys – “Crying Lightening”

Arctic Monkeys new single “Crying Lightening” is familiar and different in all the right ways. it’s a departure from there more “pop” single predecessors, and builds to be a solid track. off there upcoming LP Humbug to be released in late August, with several tracks produce by Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age.

Vetiver – “You May Be Blue”

from the you may be blue EP released in ’08, the title track is an american folk journey into what could only be a somber and bitter life experience.. “my time with you, beat a thorn-filled path, blood filled where we passed through”. their new record tight knit was released via Sub Pop this past February.

COMMENTARY: Independence Day (1996)

alien

so i was watching the film “independence day” the other day, i mean why not right? its fourth of july weekend! that’s what you do, right? and really everytime i watch the film i think (other than, man, why wasn’t harvey fierstein’s character more developed, amirite?) holy shit why didn’t the aliens invade packing macs? RIGHT???? i mean as was called out in the movie, the aliens knew when to attack us, how to attack us, all that bullshit, supposedly studied the human race for decades and then they neglect the whole mac/pc virus thing????
right… anyway, can you say bitchin’ sequel? the aliens return + macs……i see the screenplay (this is just an idea) playing out in three basic phases, 1) aliens blow shit up….this is good for at least 45 minutes of film time, 2) goldblum’s fuckin’ puzzled…..this should go on for about 45 minutes too….goldblum puzzled = $$$$$$, trust us! 3) we make millions. you know vivica fox’s plastic surgery fund is runnin’ a bit thin, she’d be down for sure and we could prob get bill pullman to work for weed. so roland emmerich, ball is in your court, dude, call us!

The Beatles – “Strawberry Fields Forever” (Love Version) and “I Me Mine”

the-beatles-animal

The Beatles – “Strawberry Fields Forever” (Love Version)

The Beatles – “I Me Mine” (Let It Be Naked Version)

an incredible remix done by the man, the myth, the legend George Martin and his son Giles. off the Love album released in November of ’06, as a soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil show, “Strawberry Fields Forever” is built off an early acoustic demo made by John. Martin takes the song’s coda concept and runs with it, creating an incredible collage of themes from throughout The Beatles catalogue.

this brakes down the writing and recording process of “Strawberry Fields Forever” and here’s a killer link to get some of those early versions. speaking of their writing process, below is a highlight from their last original release.. the ‘Let It Be’ film, George Harrison’s “I Me Mine”. complete with John and Yoko making out and waltzing in fine fashion..
