Top shelf stuff here from b3sci fav Mokhov, taking James Blake’s now ubiquitous Feist cover and adding some cool polyrhythms and soulful electric piano. The result is a classy downtempo track that maintains the emotional poignancy of the original while engaging the listener in channels of sentiment that are new.

New Lil’ Wayne leak. Buttery smooth track, not really wayne’s style but it works. Fill up your styrofoam cup with that purple drank, get your lean on and bang this out your trunk.

Any time Mark Lanegan puts vocals on a track we’re listening. Here, soul patch links up with Dulli on this paean to life’s fleeting connective moments. Eerie strings and sparse guitar frame Mark and Greg’s well worn baritones. Check it out below.

Long overdue, The Velvet Teen are back with a 4 track EP entitled “No Star”. Needless to say the song fuckin’ rips. Casey Deitz going ham on the drums. Judah Nagler, the voice of a goddamn angel. “No Star” is the musical equivalent to bangin’ 7 gram rocks. Full length album dropping later this year. The video’s pretty alright too, straight forward. Judah Nagler has awesome hair.

The NYC weirdos cover Slade, and guess what kiddos, it totally rips. Into it. These fuckers will be all over SXSW. We’ll be there!

We listen to a lot of music. A lot. So much that it can, at times, overwhelm, fatigue, dull you down to your most basic of senses. And then you hear a track like “You Belong to No One” by Scottish artist The Son(s) and from the moment you first hit play and that first gorgeous acoustic guitar figure floats into the mix and then that hushed double-track vocal begins its glide sailing cross the crest of each note’s pluck. It’s beautiful. “This is why we do this.” And you’re blown away. The Son(s)’ s/t debut is out today on Olive Grove Records.

Stoked to be bringing my Rave’s Faves to b3sci! The Dum Dum Girls got some love on their debut album but their new EP helps them stand out from the crowd of competent girl rockers. Their Smiths cover of “There’s A Light That Never Goes Out” was posted here last week. The title track “He Gets Me High” has an ace guitar intro and fine hooks throughout.

Annie Mac flipped this old Wiz jam in the mix tonight. Wiz sounds like a totally different rapper, if that totally different rapper was Juelz Santana. Shit still sounds fresh though. Grade A.
