Jensen Sportag – Pure Wet

jensensportag

Jensen Sportag’s “Pure Wet” is killer; such a unique sick mix of diverse yet complementary sounds, from the smooth to the sleepy to the visceral, the track is packed, loaded. Cheers to one of our favorite blogs, Yes Yes Y’all, for the tip on the track.

Ntjam Rosie – In Need

ntjamrosie

Great. “In Need” features great vocals (the falsetto notes she breathes out into are just phenomenal) and great arrangement and instrumentation (the melodic jazz guitar and laid back rhythmic stylings do well to frame and support the song’s melodies). Like serious top of the game type stuff. Ladies of R&B, jazz, and soul (really all singers) take notice “In Need” is how you do it.

JCB – Embracing Solitude (Blackmill Remix)

blackmill

Blackmill’s take on Ellie Goulding’s “Your Song” was one of our fav remixes of 2010. #1 on Hypem for what seemed like ages, close to 1,000,000 views on YouTube, tweeted by Ellie Goulding herself, the track’s run punctuated a major moment for both our blog (it was a privilege to first discover the mix) and likely for the artist too, Blackmill. That said, Blackmill’s newest joint is a remix of “Embracing Solitude” by DnB producer JCB. We LOVE it! Blackmill’s feel for melody and its relationship with rhythm and cadence is really tops. Big things are in store for Blackmill, dude’s talent is next level. Stay tuned.

TOKiMONSTA – Breath On My Contacts

toki

Our girl TOKi dropped this fresh mix of Telepopmusik’s classic early 00’s glamjam “Breathe” for FREE on Soundcloud today. Cheers! TOKi’s mix takes the track to the wee hours, a place where consciousness and unconsciousness start to intersect, where awakeness gives way to adrenaline and somnolence gives way to the possible.

The Weeknd – The Party & The After Party (BGS Morning After Remix)

weeknd

Background Sound is a new production duo out of New York. This remix of The Weeknd’s “The Party & The After Party” is some choice shit. Peep the duo’s Soundcloud for an equally sick FaltyDL remix. Get behind these guys.

Deerhunter – Nosebleed

deerhunter

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Deerhunter song we actually like! “Nosebleed” is the b-side to the band’s recently released “Memory Boy” single. “Nosebleed” sounds like the band actually having fun/enjoying what their doing. Think indie buzzwords or buzzphrases like *melody*, *great pop song*, *lo-fi garage*, *lo-fi*, or *getting back to the band’s roots*.

Arctic Monkeys – Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair

arctics

Love when the Arctics go heavier like this. Alex Turner and co. sound re-energized on “Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I Moved Your Chair”, reminiscent of the punch the band had during the Favourite Worst Nightmare era. So chalk up one ace lead single to the Arctic Monkeys, at a boy, lads. Suck It and See is due 7 June Stateside.

Justice – Civilization

justice-civilization

Contributed by Erin Routson

It’s fairly easy to fall prey to liking music because of its perfect synchronization with advertising. The first time I remember this happening was the VW New Beetle ad with “Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space” by Spiritualized. I bought the record because of it. When the Tron: Legacy trailer leaked, my roommate and I watched it over and over not because of the video footage, but because Daft Punk’s “Derezzed” sounded so amazing to us.

When Adidas debuted its “All In” campaign backed by Justice’s first release since 2009, the same kind of repeat watching happened. The visuals and the music paired up in a way that made you want to dunk on someone, do tricks on a BMX, dance, or barring any athletic ability – pump your fists while listening to it in your room. On top of that, it made any Justice fan drool at the first taste of the next record. “Civilization” makes you feel like you could run a marathon, or at least do 20 straight minutes on a treadmill. The slightly sinister drainy wails, the magic of the intro to “Pinball Wizard” and the beat work together to rally you. It sounds like blood pumping through your veins. It sounds like being lost on the best, darkest dance floor with laser lights flashing around you. It sounds like sweat and victory.

As for the cover art? We get it, guys.
