Rave’s Fave: Teleman – Fall in Time

teleman2

The UK band Teleman has returned with a track that portends potential major band status for them. This group has always had the ingredients in their melodies, arrangements, and overall skills. “Fall In Time” begins with vocalist Tom Sanders and his beautiful vocals over basically a piano before the rest of the band kicks in. The song builds into an accessible yet complex collaboration that should be magic to the ears of anyone listening closely. It has a rhythmic feel that provides a somewhat different sound for Teleman but we’ve seen indications in the past that the band has always had this kind of direction in them. Check this out and see them live. Label Moshi Moshi drops their Brilliant Sanity album April 8. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.

Persian Empire – Nilox

persianempire2

We recomend the short and sweet (pleasantly soulful) synth textured beats track called “Nilox” from twenty-something German experimental-electro producer Persian Empire, a.k.a. Sam Khatam (who we covered here in July for his blissfully harmonic ambient-atmospheric “Mongo Maracuja” EP single “Jugo”). New track “Nilox” (an intricate weave of technicolor synth interludes, fun and lively JB-infused vocals, and subtle on-point percussion) is out via Purrrrrrr Records. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

EAT – Byker Drone

eat

The scuzz pop of “Byker Drone” is the debut track online from UK band EAT. A component part of a forthcoming EP, “Byker Drone” is a hazy three or some minutes of sugary melodies sat in a mold of compressed guitar and walls of vaguely psychedelic harmony. It’s a cool debut.

ELEL – Kiss Kiss (Kilter Remix)

ELELkilter

Nashville-based riser Ben Elkins a/k/a ELEL is the recipient of an A+ deep house-flavored remix of his single for “Kiss Kiss”. The remix, produced by Australian musician Kilter, is spun around the feel and tenor of the club in its later hours but also maintains (an expert style move by Kilter) a cool bit of the great pop melodic framework of the original track. It’s a remix not to be missed. We’re pleased to B3 Premiere the Kilter Remix of ELEL’s “Kiss Kiss” single below.

Argonaut & Wasp – The Sneeze

argonautandwasp

We love the brightly spun, golden guitar riff heavy instrumentals and affectionately festive attitude on new indie dance track “The Sneeze” by new-to-B3 Brooklyn five-piece dance rock band Argonaut and Wasp (who remind us a bit of the Talking Heads with the vocals). Outstanding song. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Brent Faiyaz – Allure (Atu Remix)

brentfaiyaz

We recently enjoyed the engrossing acid trap meld of electro tune “3”, a brightly-enveloping dynamic-opposite-layered triple-talent-packed collaboration between B3 watch list instrumental-electro beat-maker/mood-setters DPAT, atu and Sango. We are enchanted with the latest collaboration between two artists from this crew, atu and Sango (who plays drums on the track). A remix of Brent Faiyaz’s sultry ambient slow-burner “Allure” the new tune (produced by atu) is a colorful combo of vibrant percussion, grounding beats and subtle melodic keyboard touches. We like how atu artfully maintains the track’s original experimental-r&b pause-heavy atmospheric sentiments. Great remix. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Rave’s Fave: The Last Shadow Puppets – Bad Habits

lastshadowpuppets

When the Coachella lineup was announced, a major highlight for me was that The Last Shadow Puppets would be part of the lineup. This of course is the collaboration of Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane. You aren’t onto Miles? The UK knows him real well from his solo and group work, and he’s under-appreciated here in the US. If you’ve heard the 2008 album The Age of the Understatement from these guys, “Bad Habits” will surprise you. It’s got a quirky groove, horns, and vocals not so much in the familiar style of either Alex or Miles. They were crushing it live last time they toured the US, so expect the same this time around. Their new full-length album is recorded and is expected to drop this spring. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.
