The Horrors – Whole New Way

thehorrors2

straight from the tracks of damon albarn’s studio 13, the horrors new single “Whole New Way” was originally a Japan only b-side release. re-recording it was definitely a good idea, the tune is clearly more than a b-side. it shines a solid pop track with the sort of creepy feel-good dance vibes that could only come from the horrors… and well quite a few other bands. it totally makes me think of the “i’d fuck me” scene from silence of the lambs too. the single drops november 2 via XL, and the track is available to stream on their website right now.. what could you possibly be waiting for??

Freddie Joachim – “Splendor”

joachim1

we continue to be blown away with each successive freddie joachim release. “splendor” is taken from the 5-song “getaway” EP. “getaway” can be downloaded here for free. the ep is killer and in our opinion spotlights some of freddie joachim’s best work to date. we really dig the just awesome feel put into his records. there is an authenticity and classic quality to freddie’s music that evidences him as one to no doubt keep ears/eyes on.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Magnet

bombay-bicycle-club4

“Magnet” is the next single off BBC’s debut I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose. the chorus is incredible, it just takes off with “oooooooo” and hooks baby hooks. so with guns blazin, who wins in a draw: “magnet” or the interpol catalogue?? our $$$ is on zombie ian curtis after an entrance from another dimension. either way, “magnet” is a glance at the future of a young and rather promising group..

Raekwon – “Ason Jones”

raekwon

the chef puts on a few bars in tribute to ODB. not much needs to be said, the rhymes are solid and sincere; and the beat!, it’s a dilla instrumental and it’s b.a.n.g.i.n.! “ason jones” is our fav off the just-released “only built 4 cuban linx, pt. 2”. the album is an instant classic, pick it up.

The Cribs -“We Share the Same Skies”

the-cribs-marr-4

“we share the same skies” has marr’s signature all over it. sure blahjohnny.blahblahmarr, but gotta hand it to the man.. he’s a barnacle when it comes to a good project. since his days with morrissey and co. he’s added his influence to projects with Talking Heads, Pet Shop Boys, Beck, Oasis, The Pretenders, Bernard Sumner, and Black Grape to name a few, in addition to current status as official member of Modest Mouse and now The Cribs. And until The Smiths get back together, which most likely won’t happen unless i win the lottery and offer them all my money, his work here with The Cribs will definitely suffice..

The Cribs fourth studio LP dropped last week in the UK and it will have an “official” US release mid-November (available now for download). it showcases Jarmen bros. and co. in fine form. “Cheat On Me” really grows. they’ll be in NY and LA for 3 days amidst their current tour schedule.. can’t, won’t, must-not miss them

jarvis cocker broham and former longpigs frontman richard hawley is back like chiroprac with “for your lover, give some time”. the track is the lead single off the upcoming “truelove’s gutter” LP due out monday in the UK. we dig the sort of leonard cohen/”what are you doing with the rest of your life” meld.

Janet Jackson – “Make Me”

janet

BAM! janet is gonna “make us” extend dance party monday into tuesday. and damn, janet comes hard on this brand new just-released track. we’re really feeling this sound. a sound that feels, at least to us, like an homage to her brother. between the off-beat vocal syncopations, the sort of breezy harmonic arrangements, and fuck! the repeated “don’t stop til you get enough” ?kinda? lines. we think this is the best song to come out of camp janet in several years. so excuse us, while we monday get down, charlie brown! (on tuesday! haha).

Deastro and Delphic = Dance Party Monday

delphic

the question.. we wonder, will Delphic help carry the torch of manchester brilliance??? either way “this momentary” is solid, and for a lack of better words.. does something real. and whatever real is for you, for us (today) it’s a fucking dance party. truth be told; many bands have channelled New Order, but not many have had the taste to do it right. dig

 deastro7

Deastro stand out in the cluttered and increasingly less inspiring indie electro-pop music crowd. while young in age, Randolph Chabot demonstrates his ability to hold down a sincere and quality song. there’s a fine line between writing good songs from experience, and natural talent. the latter of which radiates from “toxic crusader”. “are we not from the roots of the planet and the trees”??? ain’t it the truth?
