Beyonce – Countdown (Jack Beats Remix)

beyoncecountdown

Beyonce’s latest single gets some support from big bloke in London Jack Beats. Jack laces up a sharp 1-2 step (London speed it up) putting on a mix that’s sounds sort of like a marching band that’s had wayyyyy too much coffee (or drugs); basically excerpting the best parts of Bey’s original track and leaving much of the weaker rap-y shit that doesn’t work as well off the track. Listen.

Dirty Beaches – Lone Runner

dirtybeaches1

Dirty Beaches is crazy. Dude is totally bonkers but our Mr. Beaches is also soulful as hell. That downbeat clap on “Lone Runner” is enough to get the congregation on their feet. Listen at the pulpit of Dirty Beaches.

Slim The Mobster – What Goes Up (Feat. Snoop Dogg)

slimthemobster

Here goes some cool new West Coast shit. “What Goes Up” features Snoop and is signed off on by Dr. Dre (he executive produced). (Some serious West Coast royalty co-signing). “What Goes Up” has that sort of classic CA sound, that piano-driven cadillac bounce shit. How long before Jayceon starts beefing with this dude too.

Lianne La Havas – No Room For Doubt (Feat. Willy Mason)

liannelahavas

Lianne La Havas is our favorite new singer. Lianne’s got in her singing just the right mixture of soul, taste, diction, restraint, and melody. That sort of appears-once-a-year mixture that makes her someone you need to keep an eye to. The soft “No Room For Doubt”, which features American blues singer Willy Mason, is a gorgeous track that perfectly introduces that stunning La Havas (hushed here) vocal talent. Spin this one.

Mac Miller – Blue Slide Park

blueslidepark

Yeah, we didn’t expect this to be good either. Let alone this good. Young Mac surprises the b3sci crew with a sharp flow on top a hotly tipped jazz-inflected beat. Surprise! BSP due Nov. 8.

The Castells – Young Lovers

If the excellent jagged “Young Lovers”, the latest single from Durham UK band The Castells, is any indication – we will be hearing a lot more from them in the very near future. Somebody get Zane Lowe this track!

Robot Koch – Glassdrops (Feat. John Lamonica)

robotkoch

“Glassdrops”, new from German artist Robot Koch, is a pulsing, haunting, beautiful piece of electronic music. “Glassdrops” is the sort of song that grabs you immediately, pulls at you relentlessly, and doesn’t let go long after it’s 3 minute duration. Repeat listening material for sure.

Shaolin Jazz – Gil’s Pinky Ring (Wu-Tang Clan x Gil Scott-Heron)

gilscottsuite

We don’t usually fuck with mashups, etc, etc. But THIS(!) Shaolin Jazz mash of Wu-Tang and the late great Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Bottle”, it’s sound like Ghost, Rae et al were in the studio cutting this shit live with Gil. “The Bottle” has such a great groove to begin with but damn what a nice match. Good on Shaolin Jazz. Get familiar below.

French Films – You Don’t Know

frenchfilms

Listen to “You Don’t Know” and try to guess where French Films are from. Manchester? No. London? No. Dublin? Nope. Finland! French Films are Finnish and are really good. “You Don’t Know” is a great (albeit brief, the track clocks in under 2 minutes) slice of hooky modern post punk. Sound good? Give French Films a spin.

Genuflex – I’ll Wander On

genuflex

Genuflex is the new band of former White Rose Movement frontman Finn Vine. However, Genuflex is not a another go at WRM’s icy post punk sound. “I’ll Wander On” is glacial, wide open, and epic. Epic meaning good, not epic meaning bad. It’s a huge, soulful sound that is definitely something different.
