Poor Moon – Illusion

By Trevor Meyer

poormoon

Poor Moon brings Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott (Fleet Foxes, Crystal Skulls) together with Ian and Peter Murray (The Christmas Cards), creating a powerhouse quartet. This is quasi-reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, but Poor Moon offer up desirable, cleverly-written melodies that will alleviate all of your headaches better than most modern medicine. “Illusion” is the title track from the band’s forthcoming EP, out March 26th.

RAVE’S FAVES: Fun. – Be Calm

By Bruce Rave

fun

A group of us heard Fun’s “We Are Young” for the first time together, and the track got a unanimous thumbs-up. The group and their fans are having so much fun that the single sits at #2 on the national alternative airplay charts. The good news is that there’s more to their album than just the hit. “Be Calm” sounds like Queen meeting Mika and The Sparks. The song will probably calm you, and will hopefully make you feel good. Fun is a good name for these guys.

The Plastic Traps – Corridor

By Trevor Meyer

theplastictraps

Philadelphia two-piece, The Plastic Traps, dropped their debut album, ‘Find A Home’ in early February, 2012. Reverb-heavy, guitar-driven, and melodically haunting, you’ve got to give it up for these guys. I’m a softy for two-piece bands, but really these guys are excellent. Give “Corridor” a spin below and also make sure to check out their other material; “Thinking of Something” is my personal favorite. They’ve got a small resemblance to My Morning Jacket, which is never a bad thing.

Bobby Womack – Please Forgive My Heart

By Stephen Dobrinich

bobbywomack

Saying Bobby Womack has got soul is like saying Jordan is going to post big numbers if you put Ehlo on him in single coverage. See game 5 in the first round of the 1989 NBA playoffs. In the spirit of His Airness, Bobby brings it on ‘Please Forgive My Heart’ the first track released from his upcoming Damon Albarn co-produced album ‘The Bravest Man in the Universe.’ So whether you’re cooling it at home, or you’re getting set to start one of the greatest dynasties in sports history give this track a spin.

The Golden Filter – Kill Me (Fusty Delights Remix)

By Trevor Meyer

fustydelights

Ready to get smooth? Belgian producers, Fusty Delights do a dreamy rendition of the Golden Filter’s “Kill Me.” This is nice because it offers an interesting dichotomy. Not only can you escape to your outermost thoughts during this tracks ambience, you can also dance the whole song through, which makes for a rare, tasteful combination. Look for this to be released March 28th.

Jakwob – Electrify (Sega Bodega Remix)

segabodega

So yesterday we coined the phrase “Creepstep” (word to the dude Semothy Jones); today, a new phrase “Smoothstep”. Sega Bodega’s buttery take on Jakwob’s “Electrify” single is so good we needed a new genre term to describe it. It is the first, the greatest, the smoothest Smoothstep song of ALL TIME. Get yours below.

Thomas Azier – Red Eyes

thomasazier

We tipped you to Thomas Azier back in January with his excellent synthpop track “Metropolitan Tribe”. Well, Thomas Azier is back with a song equal on quality but a bit different stylistically, here TA turns up the cinema and gravitas with new tune “Red Eyes”. “Red Eyes” is a track of high caliber that demands your ears. Ears meet track.

The Magic – Door To Door

themagic

Canadian brothers (from Guelph, Ontario to be exact) Geordie and Evan Gordon are The Magic. The band’s first release (at least known to us) is the catchy, kinetic “Door To Door”. Sporting some sharp syncopated rhythms, on point melodic phrasing and one bitchin’ sax solo, “D 2 D” just became your new favorite song. Hit that play button!

The Temper Trap – Rabbit Hole

By Jon Herriot

tempertrap

The Temper Trap’s last record was in 2009, and it was HUGE. This is our first taste of their sophomore effort, and we love it. The lead in this band can really sing. This song has the same epic feel to it that we have heard from some of their previous singles for sure. Total Jam.

Fast Years – Let Me Try

By Chris Gedos

fast-years

“Let Me Try”, a hot-off-the-presses dittie from Fast Years, is some perfectly saccharine surf-pop in anticipation for their SXSW premiere and debut EP later this spring. For a brand new band, they know their sound. It serves them very well that the two most well-known bands they’ve opened for, Howler and The Vaccines, are perfect compliments for their style of play (better than Metronomy or even Wu Lyf, for instance). Stay tuned for an interview from b3sci HQ with the contagious four piece.
