Only Real – Backseat Kissers

Londoner Only Real will release his discordantly melodic debut single “Backseat Kissers” in early December via ASL records. The track is more boisterous and feel-good pop than his usual mix of atmospheric undergroove and off-the-wall freestyling, while still featuring Only Real’s trademark fuzzy vocal quality, catchy hook, and strikingly delicate guitar chords. After a few spins this one leaves you feelin’ right-straight and hella good. By Erin Feathers

Rave’s Fave: Madness – Never Knew Your Name

A new Madness album is always good news, and yet again the dudes have dropped a good one on us. “Death of a Rude Boy” is the cool single from OUI OUI SI SI JA JA DA DA and album goes quite a bit deeper than that. My favorite is “Never Knew Your Name” because it has a softer touch, with smooth melodies and some nice strings. By Bruce Rave

Pang Attack – Northern Seas (for Vanesa)

Pang Attack is the brain child of Alex Hackett. Formerly the stickman for Femme Generation, and the singer and/or guitarist of numerous other notable projects including Kill The Lights, the multi-instrumentalist and lyricist seems to have found a comfortable home in the mellow and expansive song noise of Pang Attack. The project’s sophomore EP Phantom Forest was digitally released this October. Get familiar Pang Attack and our favorite cut from the EP, “Northern Seas” below.

Young Kato – Break Out

Young Kato just might be looking to break out of sorts with this new track from their forthcoming debut EP. At their average youthful age of 18’ish, and having already gigged with the likes of UK heavy hitters such as Spector, the Cheltenham six piece is already finding itself a loyal following on the UK live circuits. “Break Out” packs heaps of commercial viability and power rotation ambition, so sing along and look out for Young Kato in 2013.

The New Division – Pride

LA dream rockers The New Division put the genre on notice with the shimmering “Pride”. TND, who’s varied sound is fully conveyed out their just dropped 4-tracker “Night Escape”, remind melodically of (and we mean this in the most flattering way) The National at (and not just on “Pride” where it can be heard most strongly) several points throughout the EP.

Jill Scott – Golden (Catching Flies Remix)

The b3 crew has fallen heels over head for young UK artist Catching Flies’ dreamy melodic R&B-infused production style. His latest work is a fresh vibed-out modernization of Jill Scott’s classic “Golden” joint.

The Reflections – Disconnected

The duo from LA known as Reflections have recently dropped their second single. On “Disconnected” the introduction of a subtle piano counter melody wastes no time in leading the charge for the vertical textures that keep course the rest of the song. Infectious is one way of putting it. Be sure to check out The Reflections’ forthcoming debut LP, Limerence expected early 2013.

Joel Baker – Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe (Kendrick Lamar Refix)

UK soulsmith blesses the g.k.m.c. standout with his sugary sweet tenor with production from Londoners The Confect. Both Baker and TC are on a highest of highs here with vocalist Baker earning top marks for the fluidity of his diction and feel and The Confect knocking down some of the most pleasingly soulful production of the year. Definitely not one to miss. (SCUK)

The Game – Stripper (Feat. Wale)

The latest in Jayceon’s Sunday Service freebie series finds the Compton journeyman giving airtime to the hardworking women of the strip club industry. “Stripper” couldn’t have telegraphed the cut rate “Bandz a Make Her Dance” knockoff on its face any harder; but the soulful cooled out track is a definite nice surprise. MMG man Wale chips in with a serviceable 16 to ice up “Stripper” as on of Game’s better latter days tracks.
