The b3sci alt country express pulls up to b3sci inbox terminal with beautiful raft of melodies from Caitlin Rose. “I Was Cruel”, from a songwriting perspective, is beautiful. Those melodies are tops. The hooks, subtle yet magnetic. It’s Rose’s soothing vocal though that really gives cause for notice. Look out for Ms. Rose’s The Stand-In LP due on ATO in March.
The syrupy toned Damien Jurado drops off a Christmas original in the form of the ballad-y “Kalla Hus”. A collaboration with fellow Seattle musician Kyle Zantos, who composed the music for the tune, the track gets right the references to winter-y vistas and that special brand of holiday nostalgia and regret as well as jingle bells. There are jingle bells. Get it, girl.
It’s hard to believe that LA party punks Fidlar don’t already have an album out. That will change on January 22. They’ve made waves not only in the US, but around the world; especially in the UK where their Reading and Leeds Festival sets created massive buzz. They just dropped a new track, “Gimmie Something” from the album. The song is stellar and a little more melodic and less crazy than most Fidlar fare. We at B3SCI are big fans of this band, and melodic is almost always a good thing. The Fidlar guys love Creedence Clearwater Revival and they managed to grab old CCR footage to make it seem as if it’s CCR that is performing “Gimme Something” live. I hung out in studio with Fidlar at the beginning of this year, and many of the songs they played will be on the album. You can check out our interview session here. Not a coincidence that they covered CCR’s “Lodi”, which you will see in the video. By Bruce Rave

There is little known about 17 years young Chlöe Howl, but it feels like her freshly minted, “No Strings” could very well set the stage for a big 2013. Oozing with character, Howl’s sound is dialed in and comfortable in a timely skin. This electro pop jam is as much saccharine as it is expletive and it’s no doubt one for your weekly mix.
The Andrea train kept rollin’ on his latest buttery remix for Kyson. We’re talking lush atmospheres, and easy to love no stress beats. Pour that champagne, girl.
“The Dark Age” is the latest from Widowspeak’s upcoming sophomore LP Almanac. “The Dark Age” is a bit of that dramatic dreamy-riff laced rock with a soulful underbelly that hits squarely into the b3 rock and roll sweet spot.
Terry Urban, NYC producer by way of C-town, just dropped this free download of his cool flip on “Adorn” by year-end list favorite, Miguel. It’s a slowburning jam with a tap of rap. Scope it out and grab a download over at Terry Urban’s Bandcamp.
We’re pumped because Contrakids have dropped this new DJ Skeet Skeet remix of their track, “We Go, You Go”. The cut is part of a new remix collection that also includes projects with Savoir Adore and Age of Rockets. Rumor has it the band may be in States for SXSW 2013 in support of a new EP release expected in February.
Kodaline have just released this new cover of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends”. The track will be on the band’s forthcoming and second EP, The High Hopes, which drops one week ahead of the release of their debut album, In A Perfect World on 3/18, right around the high-tide season of SXSW. Expect to hear lots more from Kodaline in 2013.
We’ve been spending a lot of time with this pair of pensively crafted compositions by New York singer-songwriter, Noro. After two years of incubation, and with a yet to be named debut full-length album in the pipeline for 2013, Samuel Hoeksema aka Noro has teamed up with Mouser to release this new digital 7″ titled Nightingale. The release drops tomorrow (12/11) as a free download and offers two tracks: “For Joy”, an upbeat pop ode featuring an array of synth textures culminating in an ethos of etherial chaos, and the more straightforward “Amor”, with it’s lyrical vulnerability and hymn-like quality. B3SCI’s got the premiere, so take a listen below and make note for more to come from Noro in the days ahead.
Trails and Ways have just released this stellar remix of their single, “Border Crosser” by fellow Bay Area collective The Seshen. We can’t get enough of The Seshen’s reverb pulsed, chopped and screwed interpretation of the track’s already tense bass, synths, and melody. This cut is the first release from a new remix EP that Trails and Ways will be releasing January 8th, 2013. Keep a look out for Trails and Ways debut full length, Trilingual expected to drop sometime next year.
