PAPA – If You’re My Girl, Then I’m Your Man

PAPAhy

New music from PAPA is always something to get hyped about and today is that day to be hyped, as the L.A.-based band release a new track in the form of the “Put Me To Work” b-side “If You’re My Girl, Then I’m Your Man”. The title certainly suggests a possible 60’s pop/soul-lean to the track, and while that’s not quite true; “If You’re My Girl…” ‘s got enough emotional gas to it to put away just about anything else in indie rock right now. PAPA’s new 7″ is out June 25th on Loma Vista.

Catching Flies – Stay Forever

Catching Flies

“Stay Forever”, the latest single from Catching Flies, continues forward the rapid progression of the London-based producer. Following up a Hype Machine #1 and a spin from Gilles Peterson, “Stay Forever” is simply a brilliant piece of beautiful beats-based electronic music. Subtle cracks in the tape, acoustic guitar washes, sleepy sax all frame an atmosphere brimming with drama and cinema. Catching Flies’ arrow is clearly oriented up. “The Long Journey Home”, the new EP from Catching Flies, is due June 17.

Still Parade – Actors

still parade actors

“Actors” is the debut track from newcomers Still Parade. Reminding a bit of a more hi-fi version of our friend Ben Leftwich, SP’s breathy melodies and simple beautiful guitar figures make for a soothing, engaging listen. The quality of the writing suggests, too, that we’re certainly not dealing with amateurs here either. Still Parade are definitely a band to keep an eye out for.

Rick Ross ft Jadakiss – Oil Money Gang

rick rosss

MMG’s big fat burger man Rozay drops off a soft subtle cooler with new track the Jadakiss-featuring “Oil Money Gang”. With each successive LP, Ross seems to up the tax bracket on his instrumental, “Oil Money Gang” is luxurious rich dude rap that very few in the hip hop world can convincingly pull off, including the big fat burger man.

Angel Haze – No Bueno

angel haze

Surprise, surprise. Angel Haze drops new track “No Bueno” and almost unbelievably it absolutely smangs. Rapid fire body shot after rapid fire body shot over a hyper-dynamic sweeping instrumental, “No Bueno” will be included on Ms. Haze’s forthcoming major label debut, Dirty Gold.

The Delta Riggs – Better

the delta riggs

If you’re in the mood for some good ol’ Rock ‘N’ Roll, The Delta Riggs bring it from Australia with some psychedelic/roots/jam rock. Reminiscent of a great night in a great dive-bar, their song “Better” is a slow groover, awash with soulful grit, latching on your hips and putting a smile on your lips. By Desiree Autobee

Premiere: Hindu Pirates – In The Dark

HinduPirates

Young SoCal standouts Hindu Pirates are releasing a new single called “In The Dark”. The track, an excellent bit of noisy West Coast guitar pop is excerpted here from an upcoming split 7” OUT TOMORROW (6/4) with b3sci presents alums, the also awesome Rainbow Jackson for Near Mess Records. The HP/RJ split is the first in a series of forthcoming 7-inchers Near Mess is doing with bands like The Dead Ships, Wake Up Lucid, Gothic Tropic and HOTT MT. So look out for the new “In the Dark” split tomorrow which (and that’s not all) will also include a digital b-side from each band.

Phoenix – Trying To Be Cool (Breakbot Remix)

phoenixbreakbot

We close up the B3 doors for the week with a great summer Friday sort of track from the King of “Summer Friday sort of tracks” Breakbot and his excellent delectably funky “Trying To Be Cool” remix for Phoenix. In here it’s always Breakbot day.

Moses Sumney – Dwell in the Dark

mosessumney2

Moses Sumney, an alum of our B3SCI Presents shows in L.A., releases latest track “Dwell in the Dark”. The pensive, beautifully constructed “Dwell” is one of our favorite of the year thusfar. The song is so melodically perfect it’s as if some greater emotional truth (it’s that heavy) about music, life, the artist, etc is revealed with each successive listen. Capital P phenomenal.

Market East – Evergreen

marketeast

“Evergreen”, excerpted here from Philadelphia band Market East’s new Children of Summer EP, ably blends 60’s pop & the more pop-leaning tracks of great British Invasion bands (without sounding kitschy or tired) with a tremendous conveyance of melody, harmony & soul. Soul, that’s “Evergreen”s weapon, the track will immediately get at the most visceral parts of your music listening palette.
