Oliver Wilde – Perrett’s Brook (Edit)

Oliver Wilde

Oh yes, we definitely love this. “Perrett’s Brook” is how the much-attempted in 2013 “hazy lo-fi rock w/ melodies” sound is supposed to be done. Meet Oliver Wilde. A Brief Introduction To Unnatural Lightyears is out July 22.

On-The-Go – Crumpled Memories

on the go

Russians in Brooklyn On-The-Go, whom we covered a few times here at b3sci, release new single “Crumpled Memories”. As we aluded to in February, the blogosphere is totally blowing it with this band. Tracks like “Crumpled Memories” demand attention. Recalling a bit of bands like The National and Foals (dreamy, bass-driven, very melodic), “Crumpled Memories” is likely at least 10x better than just about anything else you’ll hear today. Don’t miss out.

Joey Bada$$ – 95 Til Infinity (Prod. Lee Bannon)

Joey Bada$$ - 95 Til Infinity (Prod. Lee Bannon)

Joey Bad doesn’t miss. ’95 Til Infinity”, the second release from J.B.’s upcoming Summer Knights LP, connects the Brooklyn-based rapper and a stack of fly a f rhymes with a fresh laid-back Lee Bannon instrumental. It’s a hit.

Nightbox – Utopia

nightbox

Toronto-based Nightbox excel on a tremendous melodic sense and a great feel for well hewn pop songwriting with new single “Utopia”. Bright synth lines, enough rhythmic pizzazz to get yr Grams stepping & a big shiny infinitely singable chorus highlight Utopia’s quality. The band will be dropping (and we’re definitely psyched!) an LP later this year produced by MSTRKRFT’s Al-P and DFA79’s Sebastien Grainger.

Sango – When I Need You the Most

sango when i need you most

We’re pretty big stans for Detroit producer Sango. Here, Sango lets go a soft & subtle bit of (non-cliched) late-night R&B beats that would do sound right at home on the new Drake record.

Premiere: Ancient Mariner – Child of Wrath

AncientMariner_3

Ancient Mariner is the songwriting brainchild of Aurora, CO. native Gabriel Jorgensen. His new track, the pensive and beautifully conceived, “Child of Wrath” proudly bears Ancient Mariner’s knack for honest musical and lyrical expression. As Jorgensen himself puts it:

“In impatient desperation my mouth begins to water for seemingly sweeter tastes that would eat me from the inside out; my eyes are drawn to fantasies painted across desert horizons that will fade as I race toward them. I’m a child lead astray and ruined by my own wrath. May I be found, revived, and fulfilled by the only one who can reach me.”

Ancient Mariner’s forthcoming In Solitude EP was recorded in a cabin, tucked away within the Rocky Mountains. On “Child Of Wrath” the tranquil isolation bleeds through poetic lyrics driven by the many trials and struggles of life. B3SCI has your first listen at this stunning new track. Sample it below and be sure to mark July 2nd on your calendars for Ancient Mariner’s debut EP In Solitude.

Lovelier Other – Wonderkind

lovelier other

Lovelier Other do one better in approaching “B3SCI favorite band status” with the dreamy whimsical new song “Wonderkind”. Following up on the B3-approved “Hidden Shelters” and “Leave This Behind“, Wonderkind explores a bit more pop-centric side to the little-known-about band. We call it one of our favorite tracks of the week.

Curren$y – Killer$ feat. Trinidad Jame$

Curren$y

Spitta gets gritty or at least as gritty as an amorphous flume of smoke and panache can get. Not specifically attached to a project (yet), the reverb-splashed “Killer$” might be stronger than anything $$$ released on his latest New Jet City mixtape a few months ago. Also, there’s Trinidad Jame$.

Dinosaur Bones – Spins in Circles

dinosaur bones

Canadian band Dinosaur Bones hazy indie rock grooves along well enough; neatly tuned melodies contrasted w/ unkempt instrumentations and arrangements (something maybe out of the playbook of the early aughts). The real magic of “Spins in Circles”, what made us take notice, was the just perfectly executed to the vocal melody (beautiful) guitar playing of the track’s second half. A bit of credit there is likely due to Texas-based producer John Congelton who’s work with the sultans of 00’s jangly floater rock The Walkmen and Explosions in the Sky (self-explanatory). Check the “Spins in Circles” single below and look out for DB’s sophomore release Shaky Dream due August 6th on Dine Alone.

Safia – Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues

safia

“Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues” is the latest from Australian newcomers Safia. Wow, just wow. What. a. track. “Listen To Soul” is, well, very soulful; but that doesn’t really begin to describe the track’s power, it’s otherwordly grasp. Listening to “Soul” is like receiving some sort of revelation from the universe’s supreme beings or something, it’s that heavy. We understand this is very hyperbolic praise for such a relatively unknown act but damn, yeah, you will just have to listen.

Treasureseason – Don’t Hold Back

treasureseason

The sunny “Don’t Hold Back” reunites Treasureseason; a duo who’s primaries met as ex-pats in San Francisco, released an EP “Ocean Beach” (which is a cool place in SF), then returned to their native UK and Sweden to each finish their university degrees. “Don’t Hold Back” warms up nicely; building it’s dynamic steam through it’s first few stages and releasing into a nicely textured bit of synth-driven warmth. We can dig it.

95 Royale – Take Me Back (I’ll Do Whatever It Takes)

95 royale

The very strong “Take Me Back”, the latest from Brisbane-based artist 95 Royale, is the sort of uptempo feel-good dance track that should do rather nicely on your summer playlist. It’s on ours.
