Mansions On The Moon – Fade into You (Mazzy Star Cover)

mansions on the moon mazzy star cover

Mansions on the Moon turn in a wistful update to the iconic Mazzy Star ballad with this freshly recorded cover. The band do well to keep intact the soul and romantic quality of the original while still (putting on our Blake Shelton voice) “making it their own”. Enjoy a free download of “Fade Into You” below.

Jubilee Courts – Room With A View

jubilee courts

The script of broody, rhythm-driven Midlands guitar bands is not an unfamiliar one. Enter Northampton five piece Jubilee Courts with their standout single “Room With a View”. Yes, it’s of the broody persuasion and yes it’s an “angular mix of Joy Division-esque rhythmic sensibilities w/ the melodic whip of Ian McCulloch” but at that “Room With a View” does it quite well and enjoyably. We’re into it.

Flying Lotus & Thundercat – MmmHmm (GDNA Rewurk)

GDNA

A million times yes! New fave GDNA out of Southern California adds a pitch perfect dreamy space age jazz touch to Flying Lotus’ “MmmHmm” track from 2010’s Cosmogramma. Normally, remixing FlyLo would be fraught w/ all sorts of danger/red flags but GDNA’s mix is of such a quality that you almost forget it was Flying Lotus’ track to begin with (which is saying a ton).

Premiere: Strange Talk – Climbing Walls (Elektromekanik Remix)

ST_RemixEp

The winner of Wind-Up Records artist Strange Talk’s recent remix competition for their “Climbing Walls” single is this very good Euro-house-y mix from Romanian artist Elektromekanik. A silky smooth blend of 80’s-derived atmospheres and very current on the continent modern rhythms, the Strange Talk guys chose Elektromekanik’s mix based on, “how funky this remix is, but without compromising the song, it works so well with the vocals!” and “the guitar and bass, (which) has a very French disco vibe that we loved.”. We’ve got your B3SCI World Premiere of Elektromekanik’s remix for Strange Talk’s “Climbing Walls” below, go and get it!

Rave’s Fave: St. Lucia – Call Me Up

St. Lucia—Call Me Up

New York’s St. Lucia has stormed the indie-electro scene with one the the year’s best albums in When the Night. The album itself goes extremely deep and contains the great single-worthy “Call Me Up”. This slighly softer, slightly slower track has a compelling melody and one of those choruses that will stick with you. St. Lucia’s February US tour is mostly sold out. Here in Los Angeles, a second highly-anticipated El Rey show was added shortly after the first night went on sale. Reviewed by Bruce Rave

Foreign/National – Paris

foreign national paris

Foreign/National’s catchy, if not a bit whimsical, 60-inspired indie pop breezes into B3SCI w/ single “Paris”. Heavy on the reverb vocals, less-worn guitar chord voicings and a mix that, if not ruddered by the song’s galvanizing rhythm track, could just as easily shuffle off on the same easy breezy zephyr it first came in on. The Melbourne band have a debut EP on the way of which “Paris” is the first release.

Sivu – I Hold (Feat. Marika Hackman)

sivu

Two favorites of Team B3 (and soon to be tourmates), Sivu and Marika Hackman connect for the haunting space pop of new track “I Hold”. Sivu, who following his breakthrough 2013, is currently at work on his debut album for Atlantic, working w/ Alt-J producer Charlie Andrew. “I Hold” draws out the best bits of each performer’s sound incl. Sivu’s penchant for melodically complementary atmosphere and Marika’s A+ ability to convey an emotionally varied and diverse yet focused vocal.

Tom Aspaul – Pioneer (Feat. FTSE)

pioneer

New fave FTSE lends production to UK R&B upstart Tom Aspaul’s sophomore second for On Repeat Records, “Pioneer”. On the track, the melancholic warmth of the FTSE sound does nicely to provide the right instrumental context for Aspaul’s easy tenor. If you’re in London, check out Tom Aspaul’s debut gig at the The Ditch, Shoreditch Town Hall on December 10th.

Chris Malinchak – Call My Name

Chris Malinchak - Call My Name

It’s almost like Chris Malinchak has the whole electronic music community (or at least us) waiting on pins and needles for new music. Today he dropped “Call My Name”, an uber smooth R&B laced jam, something Chris seems no doubt comfortable with. It’s excellent. Round synths, percussion instruments, consistent 4X4 beat, sampled vocals and a very chill vibe. If/when we receive a full length from Chris, expect it to possibly reach mainstream levels. X priest X – Dark Sun (Demo)

priest

Florida-based synth-pop risers X Priest X drop new demo “Dark Sun”. Coming off the success of blog hit “Samurai”, “Dark Sun” veers a bit more into the territory of the ebullient side of recent-wave R&B (think Solange or Mapei). We’re into it.

Avid Dancer – Stop Playing With My Heart

avid dancer

There’s a few things that we know about the new project from Jacob Summers a.k.a. Avid Dancer. Born in Tennessee, raised in Alaska and now based in LA, Avid Dancer has already hit the local music scene pretty strong. Having opened for the likes of Born Ruffians, Night Terrors of 1927 and supporting Wild Belle, Avid Dancer has impressed the hipster breeds from Silver Lake to Echo Park. Now offering a first recording to the public, “Stop Playing With My Heart” hits all the chords with its throwback pysch-pop sound and misty, L.A. feel. Look for more big things to come for Avid Dancer in 2014. Reviewed by Brian Litwin
