J. Tropic x Alyss – September (Earth Wind & Fire)

ewfseptember

Earth Wind & Fire’s “September” rules; it’s undoubtedly one of the best pop songs of late 70’s. Duly Noted Records’ J. Tropic and vocalist Alyss dial up a low touch modern indie send-up of “September” choosing a minimal instrumental and effective vocal and do well not to crowd out but rather enhance the melodic brilliance of the original track.

Leo Kalyan – Stranger

kalyan

“Stranger” is the SHIFt K3Y co-written and produced latest track from Leo Kalyan. “Stranger” excels on its 10 out of 10 tunefulness and no drama school of the 1990’s R&B production.

Robyn Sherwell – Islander

robynsherwell

New fave Robyn Sherwell streams kinetic new single “Islander”. On the track, the UK singer takes a speak-sing melody through a jaunty set of variations over whirlwind toms and syncopations. Well done.

Milo Greene – Lie To Me

milogreene

The sunny synth pop of “Lie To Me” is new from SoCal genre jumpers Milo Greene. Transitioning from a more folk-y writing approach to a syrupy glossier one, “Lie To Me” follows the also impressive “White Lies” as preview tracks to Milo Greene’s January-due LP Control.

A-L-X – Timebomb

alx

The melodically stunning “Timebomb” is new from Scottish singer A-L-X. “Timebomb” has nods to current indie R&B in its synth rattles and bass tone but the DNA of the track is firmly classic soul. When A-L-X hits that “‘Cause true love’s what you’re looking for” run in the afterchorus, our B3 hearts melt. Give the Scottish newcomer your ears below.
