Rae Morris – Under The Shadows (Honne Remix)

raemorris

UK newcomers Honne have had quite the year for themselves; between authoring one of the year’s best songs “Warm On A Cold Night” and following it up with a string heavily buzzed singles. Here, the twosome spin a decidedly minimalist character around the Rae Morris track “Under The Shadows” mixing in warm synths and low touch breaks.

Daunt – Body Rushes

daunt

“Body Rushes” is the online debut from ostensibly UK singer/band Daunt. “Body Rushes” earns its bread on its impeccable melodic writing and immediately infectious groove. A++

T.I. & Young Thug – About The Money (Kaytranada Remix)

kaytranada

Tip and Thugman’s ubiquitous hip hop radio staple is wrought through the Kaytranada remix machine and boosted up by the Canadian producer’s choices of a tight snare, jazzy guitar, and (!)vibraphone.

Marian Hill – Got It (Kill Them With Colour Remix)

marianhill

Canadian production duo Kill Them With Colour outfit Marian Hill’s “Got It” with a stable of vibe-heavy synth and pitched-down vocals all while keeping the great hook-y head-nod tempo of the original track intact.

Joey Bada$$ – No. 99 (Prod. Statik Selektah)

joeybad3

Bada$$ guy announces tracklist of official debut B4.DA.$$ with new Statik Selektah-produced “No. 99”. Statik Selektah’s instrumental which does borrow heavily from ATCQ’s “Scenario” is sets just the right propulsive push for Joey B.’s energized rhymes.

Premiere: Sun Voyager / Greasy Hearts – Grease Voyage [EP]

svghsplitcover (2)

Look, labeling bands is terrible. Sun Voyager and Greasy Hearts are “garage rock” whatever the hell that means. Are they the music your uncle listens to while he changes the oil in your aunt’s Subaru? That depends on how cool your uncle is and how sick/nasty your aunt is.

Sun Voyager is a 3-piece garage-psych-surf-punk-stoner-hot-dog-pine-sol, whatever band. Just give them a listen all ready? They’ve just released a split with rock-n-roll-hot-and-cold-x-box-pancake-good-time band, Greasy Hearts and it’s online for free. It’s good. It’s real good. It’s a slimy pile of sloppy fuzz that makes your ears feel like hard nipples and your hard nipples feel like EVEN harder nipples. And it’s online for free.

Both bands are on Brooklyn’s own King Pizza records, which if you’ve ever never checked out, is like your rich childhood friend that had every Super Nintendo game at their place. Get it? The bands are the Nintendo games— why are you reading pedestrian metaphors and not listing to this split that is online for free?

Go. Now. Run. Run. Rudolph. It’s online for free. Reviewed by Drew Kaufman.

JMSN – Addicted

jmsn

JMSN follows up Blue Album first single “Street Sweeper” with equally strong “Addicted”. “Addicted” as a piece of songwriting is outstanding. Flush with hooks and without a piece of instrumental or bit of vocal out of place, “Addicted” is further example of JMSN’s growth as a writer.

Keroscene – Cotton Candy

keroscene

London band Keroscene announce debut single “Cotton Candy”. The track marries the noisiness and dark quality of 80’s UK indie and no wave with a more spacious melodic Cocteau Twins-referencing palette.

The Wytches – Weights and Ties

wytches2

“Weights and Ties”, the new single from The Wytches, adeptly blends a classic 50’s/60’s major-minor progression with noisy crackling walls of guitar. It’s a familiar but effective formula and one The Wytches execute quite well. “Weights and Ties” is out December 29th on Heavenly Recordings.

R I T U A L – Amnesia (Feat. Chester Watson)

ritual

The 40-esque minimalist beat pop of “Amnesia” is the third and final track from London newcomers R I T U A L’s “The Fall” EP. “Amnesia”, which features a verse from American rapper Chester Watson, exists in a spacious piano stab-soundtrack nexus between Nothing Was The Same-vintage Drake and UK R&B-derived indie like Bondax.
