Pat Lok – All In My Head (Gold Fields Remix)

patlok

We recently ran across a sensational remix of one and only Vancouver-based jet-setting DJ/Producer Pat Lok created by B3 buds Gold Fields, who are a five-member band from Ballarat, Australia. The group beautifully transforms Pat Lok’s uniquely-Pat bass-heavy summery-vibrations disco-sensed deep-house jam “All In My Head” (featuring Canadian songstress Desirée Dawson) into a bright and dynamic cosmic-vibe synth-layered dance-friendly winner that captures Pat Lok’s fun-loving essence and takes it up a notch to something even more dance-able. The remix released in earlier in February on UK label Love & Other. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Flamingosis – Momento

flamogosis

We showcased Flamingosis recently for his scratchy-vocaled horn-accected jazzy-tropical-lounge-inspired hip-hop stunner remix of “OG Bobby Johnson” (by Atlanta rapper Que). Tune in on his excellent new tropical-beats infused Brazillian-funk doozy called “Momento”. We recommend Flamingosis as exceptional for always delivering on versatile jazz-rich instrumentals, lively-inspired tropical-beats and stupendous good feels. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Street Joy – Telephone

streetjoy2

We love “Telephone” a new pistol track from rising-star LA-based honeyed-60’s soul-inspired classic-vibe alt-rock duo Street Joy; who we last discussed for their well-scripted, distorted and chaotic, melodically unpredictable debut single “Wrong Cloud”. Comprised of singer-guitarist-bassist Jason DeMayo and drummer-singer Scott Zimmerman, Street Joy have an incredibly fresh take on the soulful lo-fi alt-rock acoustic vibe that we dig so much. According to DeMayo “Telephone” is “basically about the anxiety that comes from waiting for a phone call/text from someone that is important to you. People can leave you hanging, and that always blows”. Our very favorite aspect of the track is the Beatles Dear Prudence–spun guitar riffing action towards the end. Incredibly catchy song! By the way we also quite like “Telephone”s happy-go-lucky dreamy guitar riffing indie b-side called “Grow a Garden”. Both songs are the first to release off Street Joy’s nine-track collection called the “Good/Bad Luck Sessions” which (as described by the guys) is “not an album, and not quite an EP — it’s just a collection of songs that are the result of our (studio) time at All Welcome (Records)”. We totally look forward to the duo unveiling the next songs off the compilation. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Garden City Movement – The Best of Times?

gardencitymovement3

Tel Aviv band Garden City Movement announce new single “The Best of Times?”. Infusing elements of traditional music (instrumentation unique within the indie pop idiom can be found throughout), “The Best of Times?” wraps refreshing bits of arrangement around the thread of well-executed skilled pop writing. Well done.

TĀLĀ – Enta Ayez (Feat. Sadat & Alaa Fifty)

TALA2

The exciting TĀLĀ collaborates with Egyptian artists Sadat & Alaa Fifty on “Enta Ayez” (translated as “You Wish”) for third track from forthcoming “MALIKA” EP on Columbia. Incorporating elements of mahraganat, an Egyptian style, pioneered in part by Sadat & Alaa Fifty, that contains elements of traditional Sha’by or street music, “Enta Ayez” is a dope listen and a window on another thread of TĀLĀ’s wide universe of influences.

LO’99 – Ruff Anthem

LO99

Aussie late-night house producer/artist LO-99, who we last covered for his awesome bass-bemused dance-floor-stomper “All Night”, enthralls us again with his steely barrage of metallic-vibe-percussion on “Ruff”, another beat-driven dance-y techno-dub dance-floor filler that has us busting dance moves. Anteros – Lonely Tonight

anteros

The Fleetwood Mac in the year 2015 sounds of “Lonely Tonight” is the b-side to London duo Anteros’ self-titled (yes, their first track is called “Anteros”) debut single. On “Lonely Tonight”, reverbed guitars, a warm female alto and rainy-day soul/70’s-fidelity sonics create an engaging bit of platform for a very strong tune.
