A million times yes! New fave GDNA out of Southern California adds a pitch perfect dreamy space age jazz touch to Flying Lotus’ “MmmHmm” track from 2010’s Cosmogramma. Normally, remixing FlyLo would be fraught w/ all sorts of danger/red flags but GDNA’s mix is of such a quality that you almost forget it was Flying Lotus’ track to begin with (which is saying a ton).

We love (x3) Kat Dahlia. The Miami-based artist’s potent, refreshing cross-genre mix of R&B, Hip Hop & Latin music (Dahlia’s the daughter of Cuban-born parents) is delivered vocally on tracks like “Gangsta” and “Clocks” with the power, conviction and (most importantly) killer instinct of a real and singular star. The level and quality to which Kat’s able to reach out and pull at both her empirical and emotional experiences and then so effectively translate them out into her vocal is really quite unique and special. R&B newcomer King Avriel impresses with the fresh infusion (into an already stacked genre) of sounds & ideas on “Prelude”. The track, which as Pigeons and Planes reports, was inspired by and created as a response to Kendrick Lamar’s “Keisha’s Song”; with Avriel commenting the following on the song:
““I was inspired by the story Kendrick told in Keisha’s Song. I wanted to create a prelude to his story by using my own experiences, because I felt so connected to Keisha’s struggle. I hoped the song would shed light on the cycle of abuse and neglect of black women, and how it negatively affects everyone in our community on some level — even our men.”
