CVIRO & GXNXVS – Benjamins

cvirogxnnvs

Australian singer CVIRO (Cairo) & producer GXNXVS (Genius) debut “Benjamins”. The 90’s heavy track (don’t cringe just yet, as “Benjamins” makes up for any played-out-ness in style with turns of melody and production that are truly special) finds the Aussie twosome channeling the tunefulness of Joe or Craig David through a lens of still “old school” but modernized backbeats.

flamingo

“Drip Away” is the latest sample of sooth pop from Adelaide, AU trio FLAMINGO. Buoyed by featured singer Madeleine Hunt’s emotive counterpoint vocal, “Drip Away” exists in a low touch nexus between R&B, house, and current indie pop. Stream “Drip Away” below.

AZEKEL’s trajectory continues to point decidedly upward on the visceral and forward thinking R&B of the just melodically out of this universe “Chronophobia”.

Moon Boots – There’s No Love

moonboots

“There’s No Love” is the new single from French Express resident space traveler Moon Boots. Infectious and very much in the style that Moon Boots has seemed to fashion and carve out for himself, this house track will no doubt be included into playlists around the world. Check for Moon Boots and the French Express crew currently touring the UK and soon playing select cities in the states with Henry Krinkle. Reviewed by Brian Litwin.

Tropics – Blame

tropics

“Blame” is UK artist Tropics debut track for Innovative Leisure (Rhye, Badbadnotgood). “Blame” is simply stunning. The track realizes much of the potential promised in Tropics’ earlier more free-flowing and obtuse work as “Blame”s improved qualities mark it as the focused sound of an artist just entering his prime. Rapture is the forthcoming album from Tropics and its out February 17th.

Tara Priya – One Foot Out

tarapriya

UK singer Tara Priya’s “One Foot Out” is a dynamic melange of Portishead-y mood, Morricone-esque instrumentals and (most importantly) at its center a very very good modern soul song. If you’re in London, catch Tara Priya at Birthdays in Dalston on the 24th.

Tei Shi – See Me

teishi

“See Me” is the follow-up to Tei Shi’s Hypem #1 “Bassically”. Produced by Luca Buccellati and Dave Bayley of Glass Animals, “See Me” sits at the nexus of several diverse yet complementary styles (modern indie, dub, R&B, Scandinavian pop) and conveys an excellent stylistic foil to “Bassically”s palette and tempo. “See Me” is out now on Double Denim (UK) / Mermaid Avenue (US).
