WHEN I AM KING – Something Inside

wheniamking

“Something Inside” is the debut track from Liverpool band WHEN I AM KING. Judging from the track’s sophisticated writing and arranging, “Something Inside” is the work of a very talented crew. Consciously modern R&B but constructed in a way that sounds fresh, “Something Inside” is a caliber of track that demands attention and notice. So very good.

Berhana – Janet

berhana

That’s some great melodic writing, isn’t? “Janet” is the A+ debut track from Berhana. Frank Ocean? Miguel? Those are indeed a couple of the influence points of reference bloggers are likely to throw around this guy but something here feels new and very special. We’re into it.

J.Viewz & Milosh – Don’t Pull Away

jviewz

The wonderfully soulful “Don’t Pull Away” is a new collaboration between BK-based musician J. Viewz (part of his DNA Project) and Rhye’s Mike Milosh. “Don’t Pull Away” is simply a beautiful bit of modern songwriting, every piece of arrangement, each melodic phrase; truly not one passage of “Don’t Pull Away” doesn’t seem together into this most stunning whole (ahhhh, that final strings swell at 3:51, ahhhh). You just have to listen. Wow.

TEK.LUN – Da Wormhole

teklun_001

B3 last featured HW&W rep’d artist Baltimore producer/beatmaker Rashad Tek Williams (a.k.a. TEK.LUN) for his beautifully choppy jazz-sample-laced beats-driven house jam called “Sometimes”. We’re into his latest festively-adorned acid-jazz-accented percusion-layered whimsical-Arabian-vibe synth-filled party jam named “Da Wormhole”. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Joyce Wrice – Good Morning (E.DOZA Edition)

edoza

Get into the softly-turbulent short and sugary provocatively-stylized dynamic-cheery-toned sax-tickled eye-opener fix from B3-featured artist Toronto-based beatmaker/producer E.DOZA called “Good Morning” which is based on the brief Jamma Dee-beats inspired track from LA songstress Joyce Wrice. Tasty Treat – Found Someone (Feat. Tribes)

tastytreat

Quite possibly my favorite track of this week is the stunning “Found Someone” from Tasty Treat featuring Tribes. The bit from the start to about 1:30 that’s this crazy melange of jazzy pianos, very subtly trap-tinged beats and Tribes’ heart-shredding vocal is so so good. On repeat 24/7.

Thousand Oaks, California producer-beatmaker Dan Lopez (also known as Distant.lo) turns in a deeply-profound wonderfully-emotive soft-touch-percussion-laced melodic-piano-centric instrumental Nujabes-tribute aptly entitled “Beauty”. Amazing song. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

THEY – Back It Up

they

We’re digging the sexy-sultry mild-trap-y hip-hop beats-driven r&b-vocals-dipped electro-effects-laced “Back It Up” a beautifully-heated slow-burner tune from LA-based duo THEY who recently released their short yet very impressive bright- guitar-touched Mind of a Genius-rep’d debut EP “NU Religion” (which also includes the insanely-catchy lead single “Motley Crue”). Keep your ears peeled for more from this uniquely fashioned versatile multi-genre-straddling dynamo duo who are one of the best new acts we have heard as of late. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
