Dead Horse Beats – Thinking Of You (Instrumental)

deadhorsebeats

Montreal electro/hip-hop producer Patrick Wayde (a.k.a. Dead Horse Beats) impresses with a beautiful instrumental rendition of Sister Sledge track “Thinking of You” (which is off their 1979 We Are Family album). A Bastard Jazz rep’d beauty, “Thinking of You”, is a quiet jazz centered dynamo that we recommend you hear. We think Dead Horse Beats does excellent work at dampening the original’s dated disco vibes to create a really sharp four minutes of modernized dreamy jazz-inspired bliss electronica. We really like how effectively he transforms the good time disco party track into a groovy airy electro instrumental and we have placed the very talented Dead Horse Beats on our list of artists to watch. Bluestaeb – Guanaco

bluestaeb

Paris via Berlin Oldschool Future Tribe /Jakarta Records rep’d producer Bluestaeb (who recently released his Rodalquilar LP) thrills us with a magnetic new percussion-cultured production called “Guanaco”; a keyboard-tempered mood-scape with a divine potpourri of clack-y up-tempo beats and ethereal looped atmospheric vocals artfully meshed with Bluestaeb’s killer horn melody and tripped-out synth accents. Amazing. On repeat. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Jarryd James – Do You Remember (Noah Breakfast Remix)

jarrydjames

We’ve followed new-to-B3 producer Noah Breakfast for about a year (not reviewed) and really appreciate his dynamic, soulfully delivered blatant synth-prominent artistic vision. We’re stuck on his latest track, “Do You Remember”, a remix of Australian artist Jarryd James. With its unbridled energetics and lusciously pause-y Ben Khan-vibe synth atmospherics, the remix is a sexy-seductive highly-likable pizzaz-filled posh-vibe spin of the original (which is also quite amazing). Excellent. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Anna Wise – Precious Possession

annawise

Sonnymoon’s Anna Wise, who you’ve likely heard on Kendrick tracks like “These Walls” and “Money Trees” streams a forward thinking bit of R&B with new solo track “Precious Possession”. Occupying a similar space sound-wise as To Pimp a Butterfly’s instrumentally jazzier more cooled out moments, the Sounwave-esque production is neat frame for Anna’s fresh vocal flow. Very good.

Isabel – Fences

isabelfences

We’re into the jazz-inflected alto vocal of new to B3 artist Isabel on track “Fences”. Working within a minimalist piano-led modern R&B idiom, Isabel’s full-toned vocal reveals a bit of star quality to it in its singular-ness and strong emotive communication. Stream “Fences”, a track we like very very much, below.

The Crusaders – Street Life (MANSTA & Benet Edit)

crusaders

Greek producers (and friends) MANSTA (Manolis Stavroulakis) and Benet (covered here) team up for a comprehensively brilliant disco-detailed take on saxy chart-topping vocals-led Crusaders gem “Street Life” (which apparently was part of the Crusaders 1979 hit studio album of the same name). Amazing. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
