Say hi to new Burger Records band La Lenguas and their West Coast-leaning melodic guitar/bass/drums sound and single “Love You All The Time”. Burger Records released La Lenguas’ “Tears In My Milkshake” cassette a couple of weeks ago, go cop that tape.
Get into the new fast-paced hazy-vocaled deeply gutiar-driven indie psych rock single “I Hear Voices” from Brooklyn-based psychedelic trio Sunflower Bean which is out on Fat Possum Records on July 24th. Sunflower Bean, who were named NME’s best band at Brighton’s 2015 Great Escape festival, foster a perfect combination of rock influences from garage-rock to punk on recent genre-bending gem track “I Hear Voices” which is out for release trailing the group’s very good 2014 self-released “Show Me Your Seven Secrets” EP. Oakland artist Jackson Phillips, who is one half of the electro-pop duo Carousel, is set to release his highly anticipated indie-pop solo album Headcase on July 17th under the name of his side project Day Wave. We’re into Headcase’s first several Hype Machine top-hit tracks “Nothing At All”, “Total Zombie” and “Drag” which we covered here on B3 pages starting in November 2014. Day Wave’s latest single “We Try But We Don’t Fit In” with its dreamy layered fuzz-pop vocal harmonies, cleverly subtle indie pop-anthem lyrics and simple yet expressive rock guitar fundamentals takes the cake for our favorite track off the album thus far. We look forward to more sublime indie-vibes from brilliant new act Day Wave. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
Is there anyone on a modern stage among newer artists that sings with more soul than Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes? That would be hard to imagine. Check out “Miss You”, a deeper track from the band’s sophomore Sound and Color album. It starts out quietly but sure doesn’t stay that way. While you’re at it, check out video from their Coachella sets, or their recent Jimmy Fallon appearance. Reviewed by Bruce Rave

UK band Wolf Alice move forward in the build-up to their forthcoming My Love Is Cool LP out June 22 on Dirty Hit with new stream “You’re a Germ”. On the track a compressed, tensely wound verse gives way to an out-sized hook-y chant-driven chorus (“eyes wide, eyes wide”). “You’re a Germ” is another powerful and effective mark to the My Love Is Cool tracklist.
We love the soft edged instrumental subtlety and authentically grounded old-style new wave vocals on new track “Dress For That” from Brighton-based indie duo Oslo Parks. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Two years ago, I got to see and interview The Strypes for the first time at The Great Escape. In their mid-teens at the time, they were conquering the UK in 2013 and then made great strides in the US last year with their fast-paced garage and r&b flavored indie. Many of their best songs were covers and thus begat the question: Great band, amazing live, but how would they evolve? Here’s our first hint an an answer: “Scumbag City” slows down the pace a bit, adds some intriguing layers, and shows lead singer Ross in finer form than ever on this well-written tune. If they keep this up, they will be just fine and have a serious shot at a long-term career. Their UK album drops late July. As of this writing, there is no specific release date scheduled for the US but we know that will come. Check out our chat from TGE 2013 right here. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.
