JUSWRHT – Watching

juswrht watching

Tuesday. It’s not quite as lame as Monday, but is more lame than Wednesday. The only thing that ever keeps Tuesday in the race for ‘best day of the week’ is new music releases. You’ll find gems all over the internet pop up, much like this one. LA based JUSWRHT dropped a new track online today and we approve. With sweeping chords, live violin layered on top and a catchy vocal sample, “Watching” is quite a debut. Reviewed by Brian Litwin

Tyler Coolidge – Reins (prod. Chloe Martini)

tyler coolidge reins (prod. chloe martini)

“Reins” is the brand new track from Bay Area R&B artist Tyler Coolidge. The Chloe Martini-produced, “Reins” strikes that quiet storm/88-bpm money groove right at its center. And while sonically the palette of influences on “Reins” is clearly of the early to mid 90’s (Jodeci!), there’s a realness and of-the-moment-urgency to the track that makes it infectious and not like a pastiche. Fresh out the gate.

Local Natives – Bowery (Zebra Safari Remix)

Local Natives - Bowery (Zebra Safari Remix)

Swedish producer Zebra Safari debuts a compelling piano-driven remix around Local Natives’ Hummingbird track “Bowery”. Built on ZS’s own great piano track and new breaks, the mix is equally notable for the new melodic turns and changes the Stockholm producer twists and bends out of the vocal track. Very good.

Salt Ashes – Little Dove

salt ashes

The dark pop of “Little Dove” is the b-side to Brighton UK singer Salt Ashes debut single “Somebody”. Containing enough trendy references (deep in the tank slowed down vocals, minor-toned ethereal croons, etc) to keep it relevant/pique the ears of the indie zeitgest, “Little Dove” blends those cool elements with strong writing, keen arrangement and a unique sense of atmosphere (the marriage of disparate moods/modes (from poppy guitars to the most languid R&B tones) on the track is next level)). Very very good. “Sometimes” is out February 17th on Night Beach Records.

Giraffage: The Dream – Love Hate (Album Remix) [Mixtape]

Giraffage Remixes The-Dream

B3SCI may be crushing on Giraffage, but Giraffage is focusing all his crush on The Dream. More specifically The Dream’s 2007 album Love Hate. He had already remixed The Dreams’ “Shawty is Da Shit” to well received fan fare, so the next step (naturally) was to remix the entire album. The influence that The Dream has had on Giraffage is apparent in the way he approaches his own songwriting. A standout remix on this homage project is the album’s then second single “Falsetto”. The Giraffage touch is perfect for this track, a slow burner turned club chiller all while keeping that filthy guitar solo. Well done, sir. Reviewed By Brian Litwin

Jamie Isaac – She Dried

Jamie Isaac She Dried

“She Dried” is the latest bit of brilliance from UK singer Jamie Isaac. A simple but heart-wringing melody wrapped around a winding piano figure; “She Dried” stands out, additionally, on the sophistication of its arrangement – rises of vocal harmony and electronics build and ebb w/ excellent pacing and a highly talented sense of theatrics. “Blue Break” is the new EP from Jamie Isaac and it’s out March 24th.
