Airling – Ouroboros

airling

Airling is the new solo project of Australian musician Hannah Shepherd (ex-Charlie Mayfair). “Ouroboros”, Hannah’s first release as Airling, skillfully blends an ethereal lighter-than-air vocal w/ a low touch from 40,000 feet instrumental. We love it.

Wet – Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl (Branchez Remix)

Wet - Don't Wanna Be Your Girl (Branchez Remix)

New York meets New York. Neon Gold trio Wet has been putting the internet on blast, with their smooth, refined sound. They recently tapped NY- based producer Branchez (who has also been putting the internet on blast) to remix their single “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl”. Somehow, young-gun Branchez puts even more feels into this mix. Chopping up the borderline haunting/beautiful vocals and building a behemoth of a flip, this track makes for a near perfect mix. Oscar Key Sung – Holograms

oscar key holograms

Songwriters have the most infinite canvas to create art. Within that vast amount of space, most artists tend to pack as much sound as they can within 3 minutes or so. With his space, Oscar Key Sung from Melbourne has etched out a perfectly shaped R&B jam in “Holograms.” From the incredibly round and full bass hits, to the unbelievably smooth synth lines and vocal melodies, this track is an absolute thing of beauty. Even sneaking faint birds singing to each other in between the valleys of bass hits at 00:58, OKS could do no wrong. Reviewed by Brian Litwin

Jungle – Busy Earnin’

Jungle

New and from our friends across the pond, Jungle has release their first XL Records single and it reminds us of why we fell in love with this London duo in the first place. “Busy Earnin'” drips of soul and groove from the very first notes struck via horn section. It fits immediately in their self carved formula of short, sweet, and exploding with electronic soul — and of course extremely catchy. Reviewed by Brian Litwin

Young & Sick – Glass

Young Sick

New Harvest (Banks, Arthur Beatrice, Together Pangea, etc) signees Young & Sick debut the kinetic & soulful synthpop of “Glass”. Sophisticated without being self-important, idea-loaded and ambitious while still maintaining an ease and cohesion “Glass” is indie pop of the highest order and demands your attention ASAP. A++

Shlohmo & Jeremih – No More

Shlohmo & Jeremih

And the blogosphere went “sheeeeeiiiittt”. Back in March of last year, everybody’s favorite looks like his name is misspelled R&B star Jeremih collab’d w/ hoodie-wearing languid dark instrumental chief Shlohmo for “Bo Peep” which blew up The Internet, won a Grammy, and became Pharrell Williams’ favorite song. The S & J combination are back w/ “No More”, a grimy moody bit of neo R&B that will put the serious-face head-nod on just about any music bro. We’re into it.

Little Dragon – Klapp Klapp

little dragon

Team LD announced today Nabuma Rubberband, the Swedish rhythm pop band’s first LP in three years; following up their breakthrough Ritual Union. Single #1 is “Klapp Klapp” and while the overall motion and precise diction-focused singing of Yukimi Nagano are still in tact, the new track carries a noticeably more visceral edge and an instant accessbility that surpasses even Ritual Union‘s best tracks. Welcome back, Little Dragon!!

MISUN – Sleep

B3SCI_MISUN_FInal.Web700

The mighty Misun’s new one “Sleep” is the b-side to D.C.-bred band’s “Travel With Me” single which will be released on our very own B3SCI Records this coming Tuesday (February 18th). The electronic-leaning “Sleep” sees Ms. Wojick & co ably continue to expand their palette as the track, while still rooted in the strong sense of melody and dynamics that Misun has earned their dough on thusfar, is maybe the most consciously dance song the band has so far released.

We’re throwing a release show for MISUN at the Bootleg in Los Angeles this coming Tuesday February 18th which if you’re located in SoCal you should (no duh) be attending. More info on the show is available here.

f r a n s k i l d – Clockworks

franskile

Arranged in a manner of space and complexity of mood similar to jazz or more abstract deep electronic music; “Clockworks”, new from Swedish producers Franskild does do well on its unique use of space and mood but really succeeds on the cleverness of its hooks both vocal and otherwise – that and it’s really really catchy in a hypnotic black & white sort of way. “Clockworks” is a true standout track do not miss.
