Plan B – Playing With Fire (High Contrast Remix)

Welsh DnB man High Contrast does it big with his latest remix for Plan B. The engine for HC’s remix here is clearly drum & bass but the gas is some really killer syncopations in the rhythm and synth tracks. Hot like fire.

Robert DeLong – Global Concepts

As his first release under the Glassnote label, singer/songwriter Robert DeLong offers us the Global Concepts bundle, which includes the single/title track, adjoining club and radio edits and another single called “One And The Same”. This release is another big step for Robert, who has been on the rise for over the past year, channeling different dance genres. “Global Concepts” features Robert’s vocals over a moombahton beat with different percussion, whereas “One And The Same” explores more of a D’n’B feel. To fully get the true DeLong experience, you have to see him in concert. Cuing drops with a Wii controller, old Nintendo controllers and joysticks, hopping on the drums, getting behind the computer; he is all over the stage. Looking forward to his future releases with Glassnote. By Brian Litwin

Solidisco – Turn Around

“Turn Around” by Buffalo NY duo Solidisco is Nu-disco done to its highest level. Sampling from the great George Benson’s 1981 track “Turn Your Love Around”, Solidisco does an excellent job modernizing (and we mean that in the best possible way) the jazz & B classic.

Absofacto – Backfire

An off shoot of Mason Proper, Absofacto consists of guitar player Jonathon Visger from Ann Arbor, MI. He describes his genre as experimental pop and I think he is right on the money. The song “Backfire” has all the makings of a pop friendly experiment gone right. Having been unofficially released on the 5 track EP Loners, “Backfire” is paired nicely with other blog friendly songs like “On a Ladder Leading Nowhere”. With no live shows and no upcoming releases in the near future, only a forthcoming collaboration lay in the works for Absofacto with Hollow & Akimbo in July. Still, we’ve got our fingers crossed for more to come from Absofacto. By Brian Litwin

Robosonic – The Edge

“The Edge” from German duo Robosonic is AWESOME. Most of all it’s DIFFERENT & INTERESTING, two commodities very valuable indeed in this lane of music. The clever use of varying interpolations of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” throughout the track is really some next level shit. Do not miss. Doff of the hat to our EMPT cousins for the tip.

Apparatjik Presents: Lowell – Shake Him Off

Collaborative supergroup Apparatijk presents Canadian singer songwriter Lowell in her highly anticipated debut mini-album If You Can Solve This Jumble, out on October 29th. “Shake Him Off” is well textured and enthusiastically dark with Lowell’s experimental pots-and-pans percussion (pre-recorded in her Toronto bedroom) and sharp empowering vocal mantra. Also be sure to check out her homemade outsider art video below. TCTS – 1997

Manchester based electro producer TCTS recently released his 1997/Like This EP on Bondax’s new label, JustUs. While both tracks are playful and fetching enough to receive BBC radio airplay, the ultra sheik title track “1997” stands out for its synthy disco highlights, funky frolicking baseline, and brightly laced R&B style vocal duet.  Give it a listen. By Erin Feathers
