RAVES FAVE’S: My Morning Jacket – Outta My System

My Morning Jacket are one of the few bands who truly master any style they wish to pursue. While I don’t think of them as a pop band, they deliver several melodic entries on their new “Circuital” album, which drops next Tuesday May 31. Similar to the title track which deals with life’s journeys, “Outta My System” address’ crossroad questions such as whether to smoke drugs and whether to remain single. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this track getting a fair amount of radio play. Contributed by Bruce Rave

Given all of the hype and ‘secrecy’ surrounding Manchester outfit WU LYF, their material so far speaks for itself. “Dirt” is no exception with a soulful vocal sitting nicely amidst a variety of syncopated concepts, WU LYF continue to peak our curiosity and anticipation to experience them in a live setting. Remember the song “I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked”? It’s the kind of title that sticks with you even if you don’t remember who sang the song. It was by Norwegian Ida Maria a few years ago. Her brand new single is “Bad Karma” and it’s more than worthy as it mixes her cool vibe with some Joan Jett-type swagger. See Ida live if you ever get the chance. She literally leaves it all onstage–I’ve seen her become horizontal while doing her show. Anything is possible at an Ida gig and I’m looking forward to this next album.
