The Pierces – Kissing You Goodbye

pierces1

The Alabama-born Pierces own a UK top 5 and Coldplay dude-produced album, You & I. Wild. The latest release from that LP is the dark, swirling “Kissing You Goodbye”. The track, reminiscent of 60’s vocal bands like The Byrds, The Hollies, and The Mamas & The Papas, is great and, if you’re unfamiliar (American. [We had barely heard of them too.]), should serve as an excellent introduction to the band.

Made In Heights – Wildflowers

madeinheights

BANGS. “Wildflowers” by duo Made In Heights lives somewhere between multiple streams of current electronic music and early 80’s R&B, a healthy dose of that good quiet storm shit. Throw dem triangles up. (MJF)

Nneka – My Home

nneka

Nigerian-born singer Nneka, of “Heartbeat” fame, returns with “My Home”, the first release from her upcoming 3rd LP “Soul Is Heavy”. The song marries a reggae-tinged feel, school of Marvin Gaye melodies, and a Chopin Nocture sample! Three seemingly disparate elements pulled together and blended with superior execution. “My Home” is a really really great track (One of our faves of the year). Sample it below.

Radiohead – Lotus Flower (SBTRKT Remix)

radiohead4

Much like our girl V. Williams, Thom Yorke always knows how to “save the best for last”. The final installment in the King of Limbs remix series finds one of the hottest electronic musicians in the world right now remixing KOL‘s easily best track (read: only listenable). It’s SBTRKT, it’s Radiohead, it’s “Lotus Flower”, and it’s live on b3sci.

Sway – Still Speedin’

sway2

UK rapper Sway jumps on a sample of Black Box’s early 90’s dance anthem “Ride On Time”. 12-18 months ago when this dub-infused 90’s house sound was still sort of fresh, “Still Speedin'” could have been a major hit. No doubt, it’s still a big track but is it big enough to traverse the massive fatigue going on right now over this sound. (DoML)

RAVE’S FAVES: Deer Tick – Miss K

deertick

One of my favorite 2011 trends is that indie-folk bands are becoming more melodic. With full respect to our bearded buddies, I lamented that there were so many people with “long beards and no hooks”. Hooks are good, and I’m all for talented artists reaching more people. Rhode Island’s Deer-Tick are the latest example. Two listens to “Miss K”, and I was hooked.

Kudos to the B3Sci dudes for leading the blogosphere on The Raveonettes’ “Oh, Stranger”. It’s killer and if it weren’t already posted here, I’d have a tough call for this week’s Fave. Contributed by Bruce Rave

Riverside, CA-based singer/songwriter Trevor Meyer just sent over this demo for his stunning track “Those Days Are More Than Over Now”. Complete with clattering drum layers, delayed guitar leads, and a smart capping coda melody the song has a unique blend of atmosphere and mood that make for definite repeat listening material.

“Johnny”s infectious verse melody caught us straight away. The awesome chorus hook kept us. And Madi’s killer vox made us fall in love. Result. Madi’s Far From Things That We Know EP is out now.

Herr Berg dropped this little gem he’s been using recently to open his sets with on his Soundcloud a few hours ago and we’ve been blasting it pretty much ever since. We love “ETISAW”. DEAL WITH IT.
