Neon Hitch – No Hands (Waka Flocka Cover)

neonhitch2

I said “Look, Ma, No hands!” Our girl Hitch continues her hip hop covers (she’s also dropped bombs on Wiz, M. Miller & Kreayshawn) vid series with Waka and Roscoe’s “No Hands”. Turn that shit up.

Joker – Here Come the Lights (TC Remix)

joker

UK d&b vet TC does the damn thing over Joker’s excellent single “Here Come the Lights”. TC’s remix is just one of three cool remixes by artists with names that start with T (the others come from house merchant Tiesto and Danish synth bros Turboweekend) that will accompany the single’s release. Win.

Angus and Julia Stone – Big Jet Plane (Stern* Disco Edit)

angusjuliastone

French by way of Montreal and Mexico DJ Stern* throws a subtle disco edit under The Stones blogoverse smash “Big Jet Plane”. On the track, Stern* definitely earns points for keeping a great simple song simple, choosing the original’s understated guitar chug flattening it out and using it to support a neat four on the floor complete with handclaps.

Michael Kiwanuka – I’m Getting Ready

kiwanuka2

UK singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka continues to blow us away with each successive release. “I’m Getting Ready”, the title track from his just released EP, is a beautiful piece of acoustic soul pop. The dynamics in the delivery of Kiwanuka’s sweet tenor are especially showcased on this track. Like the best storytellers, each word, each note is precisely pointed at each turn of the narrative. Listen.

PAPA – Ain’t It So

papa1

Big new track from LA’s PAPA. “Ain’t It So” sports the influences of soul and great pop songwriting that are sorely at some sort of nadir in today indieville climate. There are no chill synth vibes, no goofy-ass background “harmonies”, no hazily filtered press photos, just a solid slice of that rock and roll pie. Sample some below.

Bow Wow – Alright (Wizzle Mix)

bowwow1

We made it out the city where no one makes it. Here goes something new from our Ohio bro Bow Wow. The beat on this “Wizzle Mix” of “Alright” is off the meter. Like Bow Wow’s rhymes are alright (try and close your eyes for a min and imagine it’s not J. Cole actually rapping) but this beat….. damn. Smooth, soulful, feel good in all the right ways, “Alright” is the perfect jawn for your Sunday. Get it.
