Yes. We love this shit. TOKi let loose this awesome unreleased track from ’09 on her soundcloud last night. The 3 A.M. pulse of “Swine and Burgers” goes in pretty nicely. Check it out.
“All We Do Is Count” is new from NYC rock and roll band Grassfight. The track goes lo-fi well enough but mantains enough of a tune (both vocally and instrumentally) to keep you interested long after you’re first like “WOW, I really do love this low-fi shit.” Don’t sleep, “AWDIC” is one of the best rock tracks we’ve heard in a minute. Spin it after the jump below and check out the band’s “Icon” EP on Soundcloud.
“Lotus Flowerbomb” is no doubt one of favorite beats of ’11 (esp. Miguel’s hook. Shouts to our dude Miguel.) That said, it’s great to hear it without Wale marblemouthing all over it. Raheem’s silky smoothy melodic lines elevate “LFB” from 106 & Park “bottom of the Top 10” status to grown and sexy bedrooms worldwide.
We’ve had the new Sharon Van Etten on serious blast here at b3sci HQ the last couple weeks. One of our favorite of the new Sharon Van E tracks is “Serpents”. It’s is such a great record. It’s one of those really perfect moments when the tune, the arrangements, the voice, the content, the artist, it all just comes together. Listen.
“Paradisco”, new from our girl Charlotte Gainsbourg, is off her upcoming combo live/studio double LP Stage Whispers. Written and produced by oft-collaborator Beck dude, “Paradisco”s minimalist melodies and rhythmic figures would sound at home on a Broken Social Scene record from the mid-00’s. If that sounds like your cup of tea (we’re into it) than “Paradisco” won’t disappoint.
Shout out to The Bay but we’re about to do it for LA. Nipsey, YG & Snoop team up on this West Coast remix of the T-Minus produced tune from Take Care. Outta space jam.
Australian Rockers The Honey Pies have just released their second album Carpe Carpe. “Girl” is a nice, upbeat track. For those of you looking for new rock to sink your teeth into, this song is sure to bring about a feeling of happiness. These guys remind of Mando Diao with more of a surf feel, but decide for yourself. Also, check out their video “Don’t Mention the War” off their first album Think of England. It’s hilariously fantastic.
Hit us up with a number between 1 and 1000 for a chance to win tickets to see psych instrumental group Cave play at The Satellite tomorrow night, November 29th. Silverlake’s premiere institution hosts the Chicago rockers who display methodical structures mixed in with killer solos, music with an inner peace much unlike da Bears’ QB conundrum at the moment. Cave’s 2011 LP, Neverendless, delivers with the same quality as 2009’s Psychic Psymmer. So get in for free, buy a pint of Newcastle and play a game of dollar eight ball. Just give us number between 1 and 1000. *Chris Gedos
Just drop us a line HERE to be entered to win a pair of tickets for the set (raffled day of performance). Get additional show details at The Satellite.
Some dope shit dropped (that Florence cover of “Take Care”) over Thanksgiving weekend while we were all back in Cleveland chilling in our parents’ basements going in on MTV Jams. Top of the list of “shit that dropped while we were away” is this new Black Star(!) track (that’s right Talib and that guy formerly known as Mos Def are back!) produced by Madlib(!) (We can’t get enough of that MadGibbs shit). Hearing a new Black Star track is sort of like finding the holy grail or capturing a narwhal or something around here. We could be more psyched. “FIX UP”.
Our Cleveland brother Jason Burns turns his latest on this new remix for London UK band Maribou State. JB works down a bit of 2011 R&B, neo-garage, and a smattering tropical-y marimbas into mix. Anything Jason Burns puts out has become pretty much a must listen around b3sci HQ. Get hip below.
Our man ANT from Oz puts a sweet spin on Madeon’s excellent track for “Icarus”. That Madeon shit is pretty mint on its own. It takes a truly top shelf mixman to go in on a Madeon track and survive it. ANT survives, thrives, and knocks that shit straight out. Result.
