TIX GIVEAWAY: The Velvet Teen w/ The Remainers Live at The Satellite, Los Angeles TOMORROW NIGHT 03/09/12

velvet-teen

All of you avid b3(mad)scientists out there should know that The Velvet Teen is one of our favorite (and most underrated) bands of ALL TIME. The band’s commitment to challenging themselves with new sounds, styles, and writing approaches (and absolutely nailing them) is really unparalleled. The band is playing select dates through the month of March, which not only includes sets at SXSW (we will be there!), but also a gig at the The Satellite in LA tomorrow March 9… and we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show! Catch the band as they play songs from the forthcoming full length expected later in 2012 as well as gems from the deepest reaches of their archives. Just email us here and ask for the pair of tickets to the show. Our winner will be picked at random and contacted Friday morning, day of the set.

Jakwob – Electrify (Sega Bodega Remix)

segabodega

So yesterday we coined the phrase “Creepstep” (word to the dude Semothy Jones); today, a new phrase “Smoothstep”. Sega Bodega’s buttery take on Jakwob’s “Electrify” single is so good we needed a new genre term to describe it. It is the first, the greatest, the smoothest Smoothstep song of ALL TIME. Get yours below.

Thomas Azier – Red Eyes

thomasazier

We tipped you to Thomas Azier back in January with his excellent synthpop track “Metropolitan Tribe”. Well, Thomas Azier is back with a song equal on quality but a bit different stylistically, here TA turns up the cinema and gravitas with new tune “Red Eyes”. “Red Eyes” is a track of high caliber that demands your ears. Ears meet track.

The Voyeurist – Chase

thevoyeurist

Oh brother, here we go; like we could resist “dark London-based pop”. Newcomers The Voyeurist knock it straight out the park with new track “Chase”. The Voyeurist are everything we love about this particular lane of music expertly bottled into one amazing band. Meet The Voyeurist.

The Magic – Door To Door

themagic

Canadian brothers (from Guelph, Ontario to be exact) Geordie and Evan Gordon are The Magic. The band’s first release (at least known to us) is the catchy, kinetic “Door To Door”. Sporting some sharp syncopated rhythms, on point melodic phrasing and one bitchin’ sax solo, “D 2 D” just became your new favorite song. Hit that play button!

The Temper Trap – Rabbit Hole

By Jon Herriot

tempertrap

The Temper Trap’s last record was in 2009, and it was HUGE. This is our first taste of their sophomore effort, and we love it. The lead in this band can really sing. This song has the same epic feel to it that we have heard from some of their previous singles for sure. Total Jam.

Fast Years – Let Me Try

By Chris Gedos

fast-years

“Let Me Try”, a hot-off-the-presses dittie from Fast Years, is some perfectly saccharine surf-pop in anticipation for their SXSW premiere and debut EP later this spring. For a brand new band, they know their sound. It serves them very well that the two most well-known bands they’ve opened for, Howler and The Vaccines, are perfect compliments for their style of play (better than Metronomy or even Wu Lyf, for instance). Stay tuned for an interview from b3sci HQ with the contagious four piece.

Miguel – Gravity

miguel

Our man Miguel takes us there with “Gravity”, new from his “Art Dealer Chic” mini-EP. Tracks like “Gravity” and “Adorn”, while as sleek and prime as they come, definitely mark a different, less commercial direction for Mr. Jontel on this mini-EP. The next Indie R&B darling, throwback crooner, Top 40 hitmaker, seems from here the path diverges. Miguel is a mega-talented dude, player can knock down all three roles and etc but there must be a focus, a path forward. Which will Miguel choose?

Boy Friend – Drive (The Cars Cover)

boy-friend

Included in the bonus material to Boy Friend’s awesome debut Egyptian Wrinkle is this (like most BF material) first hour back inside the space station version of The Cars’ classic monster ballad “Drive”. Seemingly built for that spacewalking astronaut’s ipod, BF’s version of “Drive” relaxes and comforts despite the orginal song’s more withdrawn subject matter.

Meg Myers – Monster (Semothy Jones Remix)

megmyers

A building wave of blog buzz behind her the fierce Meg Myers rolls into b3sci station with this Semothy Jones remix of “Monster”. The 90’s influence tag gets tossed about quite a bit with Meg, and while we hear it (Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, etc), the indomitable Ms. Myers is a force wayyy too potent to box up so tightly. For his part, UK producer Semothy Jones sets “Monster” up with a subtle (tasteful lol) creepstep sheen. First thing’s first, Meg’s gonna eat your brains.
