Get into the superb mosh of exotic-vibe big-dub sound, brightly demure guitar-riffing rockabilly-sensibilities and sultry-boiling trap-beat-infused underlying temperatures on new track “Baloo” from Auckland, NZ band Wayvee. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
Jazzy chords well placed in the context of a great pop song is a well-loved conceit at B3. The latest grande example of the styling we’ve found is “White Gloves”, the plainly beautiful new rainy day track from Texan band Khruangbin. Wow.
Oooh yes. We like this one very much. “Salt” is the new track from B. Miles also known as Brenna Miles. Styled around dramatic hushed guitar chords , Ms. Miles’ warm and magnetic vocal, and washed in pitch-perfect tension and atmosphere, “Salt” is a track that we absolutely adore. Listen.
London-based brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales aka Chaos in the CBD stream late-night house stunner “Midnight in Peckham”. Framed around far-off jazzy horns, subtle twilight electronics and a vibrant house-derived beat, “Midnight in Peckham” is an absolute standout not to be missed. “Midnight in Peckham” is out now on Rhythm Section International.
We’re into the melodically sweet infectious indie pop from Montreal band How Sad and new track “Cloud Nine”. The song, which is excerpted from the September 25th-due new LP Everything Happens, careens about hooky and kinetic percussion, engaging major key guitar lines, and a very strong set of tuneful melodic phrases. Well done. Stream the B3 Premiere of “Cloud Nine” from How Sad below and if you’re in Montreal, the band plays at La Vitrola Friday night (Thursday).
We’re into “Something Else”, the inventive new bit of rhythmic pop from South London duo Lightboxes. “Something Else” with its layered rhythms, instrumentally spare aesthetic and pinpoint alto vocal remind us (in a very good way) of Little Dragon’s best. The duo compose a unique live performance dynamic, singer Donna Thompson doubles as Lightboxes drummer and her songwriting partner John Atterbury plays upright double bass. Listen to Lightboxes impressive debut below.
Pop upstart Ofelia K. who’s made a bit of splash online with first two single “As A Bell” and “White T-Shirt” is party to a well-executed new mix for the later track by Kings of Hypem Golden Coast. G.C. add into the track a bit understated bounce and neat chord voicings to create for a dynamic listen.
How many times does a fine album drop, only to not to receive its due love? Here’s one: Crocodiles have always been a consistently strong band, and there are lots of cool jams on Boys. “Do the Void” isn’t quite your typical ace Crocs song but in this case it’s a good thing. It’s a pure party in your favorite garage and guitar work is excellent all around. Check “Do The Void” out and check out the entire album. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.

Vic Mensa has been gifting us with new music every Friday for the past few weeks and latest installment “All That Shines” is another A+. “All That Shines” is in that joint rap-sung style in which that Vic always excels. Come back next week and hopefully more great music will follow. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.
Nobody really knows a lot about the hip-hop group out of Chicago, Goodbye Tomorrow. They first came on the scene earlier this year with “Jay Z” and followed up with their album A Journey Through The Mind Of A Non Believer which came out about a week ago. There is not one singular stand out track because the whole project is quality; but don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein
