Premiere: Motherhood – The Blow

motherhood press shot one

The cinematic dark pop of “The Blow” is the current single of Birmingham-based artist Motherhood. The solo project of songwriter Joe Robinson, Motherhood explores, through high drama sweeping R&B love lost and lorn, mortality and all that other assorted heavy stuff. The low res, voyeuristic, black & white treatment for “Blow”‘s visual, which we’re premiering below, does rather well to complement the track’s sinister/tragic but can’t keep your eyes from dynamic.

Casa Indio Vice SF 11.1.13 first

This year Indio Beer and Vice Magazine have teamed up to raise awareness for Mexican and Mexican-American artists in the United States with their aptly titled Casa Indio tour. The 2013 tour of events has found it’s way to Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, and is currently home-based in San Francisco at the Folsom Street Foundry for two weeks of culturally inspired, underground music and arts celebration.

On Friday night, November 1st, we popped into the Folsom Street Foundry for an up close look at Casa Indio. The vibes were nothing but ace as Halloween costumes were (still) in full force, local art pieces lay draped on display throughout the venue, and an abundance of complimentary Indio beer helped fuel the Casa Indio Mexican-American party. The evening’s show was presented by Mishka and showcased a stellar bill of live talent that included A1, Shadowrunners, Click, NanosauR, and DJ Vin Sol. You can check out some pictures from the event below.

Casa Indio’s two week line-up includes nearly 20 artists. The party will continue through Saturday, November 9 at the Folsom Street Foundry. For further information about Casa Indio including future performances, gallery showings, and how to RSVP; visit casaindio.vice.com.

Hella Better Dancer – Sleeptalking

hellabetterdancer sleeptalking

“Sleeptalking” is easily the most infectious track yet from Brighton/London four-piece Hella Better Dancer. Eerie female vocals and dark bass lines repeatedly lunge into a series of glorious choruses, before wandering off into the night after a brief two a half minute spell. You can pick it up the track from Beautiful Strange after Nov 11th and download it for free today. Reviewed by Nathan Hetherington

REVIEW: Casa Indio @ Folsom Street Foundry, San Francisco 10/30/13

casaindio

Team B3 was in the building for the San Francisco version of Indio Beer and Vice Magazine’s Casa Indio tour. Conceived to help increase visbility of Mexican and Mexican-American musicians and artists in the U.S., the San Francisco Casa Indio stop is one of four to take place in 2013; the others being Los Angeles, Austin & Chicago.

Casa Indio’s two week line-up (the festival runs through Nov. 9) of nearly 20 artists included Wednesday night’s performances from Boiler Room L.A. vet Shawn Reynaldo and Icee Hot records artists Ghosts on Tape. The vibey modern house of both Reynaldo’s and Ghosts sets did nicely to complement the venue’s relaxed, artistically well-appointed atmosphere (and free beer).

Casa Indio continues Thursday Nov. 7 at the Folsom Street Foundry with sets from DJ Vin Soul, Bobby Browser, Matrixxman, and Jason Kendig. For further information about Casa Indio including future performances, gallery showings, and how to RSVP; visit casaindio.vice.com.

MØ – XXX 88 (Oceaán Remix)

mo

Manchester-based producer Oceaán restyles current indie it girl MØ’s “XXX 88” nearly unrecognizable (but in a very good way). The after hours house/R&B blend on Oceaán’s mix is the sort sound we imagine our MØ “chilling” too after busy evening of raging. The “Bikini Daze” EP is out now.
