The Seven-produced “Blame Yourself” has one of the HEAVIEST beats we’ve heard in a minute. MTV Riff Raf could rap on this shiz and knock out a banger, ANYTHING/ANYONE would sound good/interesting on top a beat like this. XV & co. deliver, though, with the rhymes on, at the very least, a level with the production. Track to Veggies, the young Casey continues to step his game his up.

South London songwriter Charlene Soraia is the current owner of the #7 place on the UK singles chart. Her piano-driven cover of The Calling’s “Wherever You Will Go” (remember that shit?) which debuted in Tea commercial has shot the 23 year old into the spotlight. “Lightyears”, a Soraia-penned track, is a pensive, neatly-voiced shuffle that while maybe not a Top 10 UK hit is still a really solid track that demands your listening attention. Listen.

“On Your Way” is new from Alabama Shakes, formerly just The Shakes. Supported by frontwoman Brittany Howard’s husky, urgent, honest vocal, AS play some really excellent southern soul-influenced rock and roll. Otis Redding, James Carr, CCR, The Band, other stuff are just a few of the references here. If you like a little church and/or a little deep fryer in your rock music (we do!), you will want to check Alabama Shakes out ASAP.

The artist St. Lucia was born in South Africa, lived in the UK, and is now located in Brooklyn. His Temper Trap-esque sounding track for “We Got It Wrong” caught us out straight away. Uptempo, infectious, layered with hooks, “We Got It Wrong” is an excellent piece of synth pop. Get familiar.

The more played out “Video Games” gets the better the remixes seem to get. This new Joy Orbison mix, which just saw its premiere on Zane Lowe, may be the best “Video Games” mix yet.

Finally, finally, finally, been waiting on C-Play to try something a bit more electro, dance, r&b, anything, anything to change-up that formula for vanilla bean they’ve been using for 10+ years, “Princess of China”, which features Rihanna(!) is hopefully the first step in a direction, any direction, that is even remotely different or interesting.
